Many Chicago neighborhoods have a familiar aroma: Logan Square often smells like burnt toast or coffee, and when the wind is right, Bridgeport smells like blueberry muffins. But Archer Park on the Southwest Side smells like Silly Putty. I take my daughter there for tumbling class every week and I can't help but wonder where that unmistakable Silly Putty smell comes from. And naturally I wonder if Essence of Silly is healthy for the homes that surround the park.
