Reading your story about tunnels, I am curious about another tunnel. At the Ilinois Institute of Technology thre are steam tunnels connecting several buildings. One in particular connects the Life Sceince building to the Stuart Bulding, passing under 31st street. It was sometimes open when I was a student. I did notice that this tunnel goes north, but then the tunnel splits with one tunnel heading east to where it connects to Stuart Building but a second branch continues north. The odd part is: Stuart Building is the northernmost building on the campus (west of State Street), so where does this tunnel go? I am also curious about the staircase to nowhere next the the Engineering 1 building, which was rumored to go the the unfiished basement of 'Engineering 2', as E1 is the only numbered building and has no mate.
